Ordering a repeat prescription without the phone queue

Most delays with repeat prescriptions happen before the pharmacy sees them. Setting the process up properly once saves a lot of phone calls later.

Nominate a pharmacy

In the NHS App, or at your GP surgery, choose one pharmacy as your nominated pharmacy. From then on your prescriptions go there electronically and there is no paper to lose.

Order in good time

Order about a week before you run out. Your GP has to approve each request, and that step is usually the longest part.

Why an order stalls

  • The GP has asked for a review before issuing more
  • The item is out of stock nationally and needs an alternative
  • The dose changed recently and the prescription needs checking

If you cannot get in

Ask about delivery, or send someone with the name and address on the prescription. For controlled drugs, whoever collects may be asked to sign.
